DescriptionTurned wooden handle placed within an iron stamp faced with lead. The lead has a cast image of two doves facing each other over al laurel and intertwining hearts. A voided space with a screw allows for type to be set to stamp personalized names.
Label TextStamps of all sorts were used throughout the 19th century to mark clothing, military uniforms, and quilts with owner’s names in indelible ink. These stamp were very popular on signature quilts and this particular stamp design can be found several extant quilts.
