DescriptionThis is a small pieced doll quilt consisting of plain and printed cottons in shades of pink, brown, red, black, white, blue, green, and maroon. The patterns of the printed cottons consist of small florals, stripes, checks, stars, small geometrics, and a Greek key motif. The overall pattern of the quilt design is asymmetrical with angular and mismatched patches stitched to a foundation ground of plain white cotton, which also serves as the backing to the doll quilt. The backing/foundation is made up of two seamed panels. The quilt is bound in a folded one-inch fabric strip of a brown floral printed cotton. It is not quilted and does not have batting.
Label TextThis doll quilt resembles the crazy quilts that were so popular in the last decades of the nineteenth century. These types of quilts are called "crazy" because of their apparent disregard of overall design and the mix of irregularly shaped fabric swatches traditionally used in them. This doll quilt is made of plain and printed cottons cut into a variety of shapes and placed randomly to create a hodgepodge of patterns.
