DescriptionLow-fired furnished earthenware jar with slightly narrowed base and neck with defined shoulder, decorated with a polychrome checkerboard design. Signed on the base.
Label TextToday Lucy Lewis is revered as one of the matriarchs of American Indian pottery, learning the Acoma Pueblo pottery traditions from her great-Aunt and others in her community. Her use of black geometric lines on a white slip was part of a revival of eleventh-century Mimbres-style pottery.
