DescriptionSilver salver of undulating circular form with an applied rim composed of six gadrooned sections separated by projecting sprigs, set above shaped sides which slope into a flat center. The components of the rim are cast, as are its three claw and ball feet.
Label TextSometimes called a "waiter," this serving tray was made by two of Joseph Richardson the elder's sons and is of the most desirable any stylish form for its time. When their father left the silversmithing trade in 1777, Joseph Jr. and Nathaniel hung out their shingle, and remained in partnership until after 1790, when Nathaniel went into the ironmongery and hardware business.
InscribedWeight of "10 oz 14 dt 12 gr," in two lines, scratched on the bottom.
