DescriptionPair of Chinese porcelain guglets from the DeWitt Clinton service.Label TextThis pair of guglets or wash bottles were part of a large service ordered by prominent New York residents DeWitt Clinton and his wife Maria Franklin Clinton and bears the couple’s joint monogram “DWMC.” DeWitt Clinton served in the New York Assembly, became a US senator, and was elected mayor of New York City in 1803. The service may have been ordered after his mayoral election allowing him and his wife to entertain in the most elegant fashion.
