DescriptionPewter teapot with a pear-shaped body with a double-line around the shoulder, a curved, faceted spout, and a triple-domed and beaded-edge lid topped by a painted disc finial. Its scrolled handle is painted in imitation of ebony and soldered to the body at the ends of integral round sockets.
Label TextThough unmarked, this teapot closely resembles those made in Hartford, Connecticut by the partnership of brothers Thomas D. and Sherman Boardman. One of early America's most prolific manufacturers of pewter, the Boardmans once bragged that they sold 3000 teapots during a six month period. Many of these would have been pear-shaped like this example.
