DescriptionIncised molding on face of inverted rim of baluster-shaped body curved inward above cast circular splayed base; two-part cast S-scroll handle soldered below rim and to lower part of body with voluted acanthus leaf grip with pendent drop, ribbed sides of face, and bud terminal. Engraved coat of arms and crest on face of body opposite handle. Arms of the dexter half of the coat are those Montgomery quartering Eglinton. The impalement of the sinister half of the shield displays the arms of Percy. The marriage between these families is unrecorded. Label TextA similar mug of 1720/21 by Paul de Lamerie with the same engraved armorials was exhibited in Houston in 1956. Similar mugs of 1728/29 by Thomas Tearle of London and of 1729/30 by George Boothby of London are also in the CWF collection (accessions 1969-259 and 1954-546).
