DescriptionYellow pine trapezoidal slip seat frame of usual construction with remnants of original upholstery and original webbing and bottom linen. Matching slip seat retains parts of original horsehair outer covering (150 threads/hairs per inch).
Inscribed"2373-1" in red paint (former accession number for the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts);
Markings"V" chiseled into rear rail.
ProvenanceSlip seat from one of a pair of mahogany side chairs, each with Marlborough legs, ladder back, and serpentine slats. Chairs were acquired by donor from MESDA in 1968. Frank Horton of MESDA said that the chairs had a Richmond history.
