DescriptionThis is a fragmentary two-part valance for the top of a tall-post bedstead. The valance is constructed of large-scale red and white checks, with the bottom edges scalloped with alternating deep and shallow swags. The bottom edges are bound with blue, red, and white tape folded over and stitched and the top edges are overcast. The valance consists of two pieces, 52 1/4" wide and 20 1/2" wide, stitched together to form a corner of the bedstead. Self lined.
Label TextThis is a fragmentary valance for the upper portion of a tall-post bedstead. The scalloped valance, originally intended for the side and foot of the bed, was butted and stitched together where it met the outside corner. The deep and shallow scallops are bound with coordinating red, blue, and white woven trimming enclosing the raw edges. The valance was used with matching curtains to fully enclose the bedstead.
