DescriptionWhite linen damask table napkin with mirror-image design consisting of heraldic devices (probably the arms of the Holy Roman Emperor and the town of Augsburg), AUGSBRUG inscribed above a view of the city, and a mounted figure. Above the figure is an angel with a banner inscribed KAROLUS VI, referring to Charles VI of Austria (1685-1740), Holy Roman Emperor. One napkin has the embroidered initials EVR (Elizabeth Van Renseelaer, 1771-1798), one has embroidered initials ES (Elizabeth Sanders, 1777-1850); all 3 are inscribed in ink MARIA ELMENDORF (1796-1869).
