DescriptionSalt Cellar: Depressed hemispherical receptacle or well for salt with multiple moudlings around opening; faceted globular body of octagonal plan with mid-band resting on a high moulded base of cyma-reverse profile.
Label TextThis is a splendid example of an early bulbous trencher salt. It is more substantial and, with its octagonal paneling, more articulated than most examples. Hugh Quick specialized in elaborate candlesticks, and this salt is reminiscent of the central knop from the stems of his important pair of candlesticks (CWF accessions 1974-670, 1-2).

MarkingsTouch mark a cross form with a fleur-de-lis issuing from either end of the vertical arms and with "H" to the left end and "R" to the right end of the horizontal arms and with "16" above and "74" within a beaded circle on underside of well (London Touch Plate I, 230; Cotterell 3806).
