DescriptionRectangular straight-sided container with a large square central hole and twelve round holes in a slightly recessed top. Whitish tin glaze decorated on each side of the central hole in blue with a geometric pattern of squares, leaves, and small circles. On the sides, a red and orange stylized floral motif consisting of a central pendant with a floral sprig flanked by a trellis diaper scroll above and two repeating flower sprays below; on the ends, variations of the same motif. On the recessed base, a light grayish blue 8.
Label TextThe same style of decoration seen on this flower brick is also found on a London sugar dish in the CWF collection (accession 1964-442). Three other bricks of the same size and construction have the same piercing in the top (accessions 1964-294, 1975-91, and 1938-15).
Inscribed"8" on base, probably a decorator's mark.
