DescriptionArmchair: serpentine cresting rail with central, carved C. scroll above band of leafage surrounding central, incised cabochon; prominent, ruffled, shell-carved ears with dependent leafage extending part way down face of stiles; shaped and tapering stiles, flat at front, rounded at rear; interlaced, openwork splat composed of two pair of opposing C-scrolls at top over a central diamond; the bottom pair of scrolls terminate in leafage, carved volutes; the lower part of splat is pierced with two pair of vertical lobes; splat mortised into high, molded shoe, the upper molding carved with a shallow, geometric band; pair of S-shaped arms, slightly rounded on top, terminating in carved eagle heads; arms supported by an S- shape support attached to exterior of side seat rails; balloon seat frame; thumb-molded on upper edge; cabriole front legs, carved with ruffled shell at top which extends upward overlapping seat rail at corners; dependent leafage carved on leg below shell, flanked by shaped brackets on either side carved with leafage and outlined with slightly raised C-scrolls; legs terminate in high claw and ball feet; rear legs essentially square in cross section, rounded at corners, raking backward and tapering to squared, shaped foot.
