Label TextThis print, representing the month of January, is part of a set of twelve prints showing the months of the year. Themed sets, such as this were popular throughout the eighteenth-century in England and America. A warmly and fashionably dressed young woman sits on a slip-covered chair in front of a window reading a letter. Through the window skaters can be seen on a frozen pond against a wintery landscape. The room gives the look of much elegance, with two carpets, over what appear to be marble floors, a second chair also with cover, and a drape on the window to match. A painting of a winter scene hangs on the wall.
