DescriptionOval dish without a foot ring. Blue tin glaze decorated in blue: in the well an oriental landscape depicting three mountains, a lake, boats, a large pagoda, rocks, a grouping of four small houses, and a few trees within a traditional Chinese border; on the rim, an intricate banding incorporating many oriental motifs, including the butterflies on each side. On the reverse, rim is glazed but flat bottom is not.
Label TextThis delft dish may have been an English-made replacement piece for a Chinese export porcelain dinner service. In addition to the Chinese-influenced blue-and white decoration on the face of the dish, the flat reverse is unglazed, as is common on export porcelain but rare on English delft.
