Date1750-1770
MediumTin-glazed earthenware (delft / delftware)
Dimensions5 1/8" square (13.0 cm.)
Credit LineMuseum Purchase
Object number1989-174
DescriptionSquare tile with canted sides, white tin-glaze decorated in black with a diagonal checkerboard pattern.
Label TextThis tile was produced by drawing diagonal lines and filling in every other square with a brush. Another published example initially appears the same, but closer examination reveals that it was done with a stencil because, unlike this one, the white squares appear larger than the black. Both tiles are attributed to Liverpool based on the color and the glaze.
