DescriptionThis is a square sampler that has 12 bobbin lace mesh fillet patterns, with a rectangular space on the upper right corner left empty. The square sampler has been mounted on pink silk with pink satin ribbons separating each pattern.
Label TextThis square sampler, which bears no inscriptions or marks that can indicate who made the sampler or where or when she completed it, is likely from 18th or 19th-century Italy. It was made by removing most of a ground fabric's warp and weft threads and embroidering on top of the remaining threads. The sampler's 12 different drawnwork designs come together to create a visual checkerboard of patterns. This sampler is mounted on a square of pink silk, and each of its drawnwork patterns is separated by pink satin ribbons.
