Label TextThis print is from an original painting by John Collet, which is now in the Colonial Williamsburg collection (1993-138,A&B). A recruiting sargeant and a young woman compete for the fate of a tradesman standing between them. A notice on the building behind them says, "All aspiring young men who despise slavery..." Another soldier in the right background holds a drum while drinking from a wine glass.
