DescriptionSilver salver or teapot stand: Four molded stepped feet support a small circular salver or teapot stand with plain curved rim moulded stepped feet.Label TextThis diminutive three-footed waiter or salver marked by Edward Winslow of Boston probably was used as a stand for a chocolate, coffee-, or teapot. Without such protection, heat from these newly fashionable hot beverages would have damaged fine wood furniture. The name “Tyng” is engraved in script on the back of the salver. It was made for Edward Tyng (1683–1750), one of the most distinguished naval officers of the colonial period, and descended in his family.
InscribedEngraved in script on back "Tyng"
MarkingsMarked in relief "EW" over a fleur-de-lis in a shaped reserve on the face of the salver. Note that mark is rubbed
