DescriptionDeep plate-shaped bowl with foot ring. White tin glaze decorated in blue with an oriental floral spray and flying insects within a bamboo border. On the rim, a band of trellis diaper and five reserves filled with scrolling lines and stylized leaves. On the exterior, a series of Os and dashes; within the foot ring, the initials WP above the numeral J.
Label TextThe initials on the bottom of this dish are often said to be those of the potter William Pottery, as he is the only potter with those initials recorded as working in Bristol at the time this bowl is believed to have been made.
