DescriptionWoman's shoe, one of pair, made of white silk satin. Shoe has rounded toe and flat sole (no heel) of leather. Shoe fastens with silk ribbon laced through eyelets in the small latchets over a small squared tongue. Edges are bound with white ribbed silk ribbon. Linings of cream linen and white kid. Shoes are made in right and left.ProvenanceSaid to have been worn by Jane Hodge Nichols of Maine. Family records indicate Jane Hodge was born in 1784; she married Thomas Nichols in 1802 and died 7/24/1861. The couple lived in Wiscasset, Maine.
