DescriptionThis is a T-shaped pieced quilt constructed of alternating rows of red and blue-black plain-woven woolen squares on point, approximately 7 1/2" in size. Several of the squares have been pieced together to achieve the desired size fabric. Within each block is a feather circle with nine petals and in the join of the triangles is a quilted square pattern, all quilted with woolen running stitches of 5 to 6 per inch. The quilting thread color alternates: in the red fabric the thread is a reddish color and in the dark fabrics the thread is black. The bottom corners are cut out to fit around a bedpost. There is a medium weight backing of plain-woven yellow cotton warp/ woolen weft, woven about 36 inches from selvage to selvage. The edges of the quilt are bound with modern bias-cut brown tape that is stitched to the front edge and then folded over and stitched to the back. The batting is white cotton. The piecing threads for the squares are linen and the stitching threads for the backing are cotton. There are scattered holes in the textiles, especially in the blue-black areas, and discoloration.
