DescriptionThis coverlet is a blue and cream tied Beiderwand woven coverlet in two loom widths center seamed. It has a cream warp and the weft consists of cream cotton threads and blue wool threads. The center ground consists of floral motifs with stars and leaves. This is surrounded on three sides by a border. This border on the bottom edge consists of floral motifs and birds, while the border on the sides consists of urns with flowers, possibly tulips in them. The corner blocks in the two lower corners have an inscription which reads "JOHN/ KLINHNIZ/ OHIO/ 1852". The coverlet has fringe on three sides which was woven with the piece. The upper edge is a cut edge.

ProvenanceAccording to the object file at AARFAM:
Conversation with donors 12/22/81 reveals their belief that the coverlet was made for Mrs. Ribley's paternal grandmother, Mary Ann Hartman Kunkler (Mrs. Steven H. Kunkler), born 1830, of Medina Township, Medina Co., Ohio (about 12 mi. from Akron). Mary Ann Hartman Kunkler's marriage date is unknown. Coverlet descended to Mrs. Ripley's father, Cornelius Franklin Kunkler (b. 1874), also descended to Mrs. Ripley's father, Cornelius Franklin Kunkler (b. 1874), also born of Medina. He was the youngest of 11 children.
