DescriptionCarbine having fore-end of the stock continuing to the end of the muzzle (home-stocked). Lock is marked "I LUDLAM". Original bridleless lock has a round gooseneck cock, flat-backed top jaw and slotted jaw screw. The top jaw is replaced. Barrel is original and marked with Birmingham "private proof" marks. Walnut stock is original having beavertail at barrel tang and pointed rear molding. Brass mounts are original, the thumpiece having an ornamental engraving of a coronet and crests. Sling, ramrod and bayonet are missing.
MarkingsLock marked "I LUDLUM". Thumbpiece engraved with ornamental rendering of two different crests; each on a rococo pedestle, one griffin head and one griffin passent. On barrel: Birmingham proof & view marks, plus that of William Staples.
