Label TextCoins were commonly engraved with all sorts of inscriptions and decorations during the 18th and 19th centuries. Often carried as "pocket pieces" for either sentimental reasons or good luck, others were cut to reflect the owner's membership in a Masonic Lodge. With a 1773 Virginia halfpenny as the host coin, it is plausible that this piece was engraved in Virginia, for a Virginian. The meaning of "W.C" mark struck behind King George's head and below his chin is unknown.
Markings"W.C." struck on behind George III's bust, and below his chin.
