Globular jar on a high pedestal base with slightly everted rim, short knopped spout, and straplike handle. White tin glaze decorated in blue with standard pipe-smoker cartouche, inscribed "S AUGUSTANUS." No glaze on base.
Label:Augustanus's syrup probably refers to a prescription devised by Dr. Augustin or Augustinus, a Venetian who became "domestic physician" to Cardinal Wolsey and a fellow of the College of Physicians in 1536.
