Museum Purchase
Acc. No. 1953-866
Woman's unmade cap of linen bobbin lace. Cap is a flat semicircle with extensions on either side, corresponding to the cheeks when worn. Cap was probably intended to be gathered along the circular part for shaping at the back of the neck. The lace is constructed with narrow lines of brides that connect almost-solid pattern of flower basket in scrolled cartouche surrounded by varied floral sprays. Numerous later stitch lines indicate repairs or later re-shaping.
