1 1/4" Hollow Punch

1750-1820
Origin: England or America
OL: 2 1/4"
Iron / steel
Gift of Judith and William McMillen
Acc. No. 2012-44
1 1/4" hollow punch
Label:This seemingly simple tool served two purposes; it could be used to punch out 1 1/4" discs of tin, or it could be used to cut a 1 1/4" hole in a piece of tin. Either way, using this tool took muscle, as evidenced by the extreme "mushrooming" of the striking surface, indicative of many heavy blows from a sledge hammer.
