DescriptionChild's dress of purple and white cotton, block printed in vertical stripe of alternating pin dot texture and repeated winged bat-shaped motifs. The scoop neckline is fitted with a drawstring. Two additional drawstrings are positioned under the bust and at the slightly raised waist. The sleeves are long and straight, cut in one with the bodice. The back opens to below the waist, fastened with drawstrings to a point below the waist. The narrow hem measures less than 1/4" wide. Blue threads in selvages of the cotton textile indicate an origin in England between 1774 and 1811, and intended primarily for export.Label TextDesigned for comfort and practicality, this small frock is fitted with one adjustable drawstring at the neckline and two on the bodice. The washable printed cotton would hide stains and be easy to maintain.
ProvenanceAccording to vendor, dress was purchased in England from a dealer who had bought it at auction.
