DescriptionBreeches of unlined brown tabby woven silk. Buttoned waistband and buttoned fall front with twill worsted fall lining. Two front pockets with third narrow pocket on right opening entered through top of waistband. Breeches end below knee with bands intended for buckles and side openings, each with four cloth-covered buttons. Knee button placket, waistband, and pockets lined with linen. Linen pockets. Center back seam covered with linen tape. Three button waistband closure, with 2 buttons missing. Fabric appears to match that of waistcoat, G1981-181.
ProvenanceProbably worn by Judge John Blair, Williamsburg, Virginia (1732-1800). Note found in right waistcoat pocket of related waistcoat G1971-181 reads: "Short-clothes/ belonging to/ Thomas Hamilton Henderson,/ Grand son of/ Judge John Blair./ Born 1798-Died 1814./ Presented by Mrs. W.B. Robertson."
