DescriptionWoman's gown of cream-colored silk brocaded with floral sprigs in multicolors, isolated within scalloped reserves, against a ground of supplementary wefts forming floral and diamond background patterns. Fitted bodice has low scoop neckline trimmed with silk fringe (later replacement) and a edge-to-edge closure extending down to a low point at center front. Back is fitted close to the body ("English back" or robe a l'Anglaise) with stitched down pleats extending into skirt. Elbow length sleeves are missing ruffles or cuffs. The full skirt is pleated in 1/4" pleats, open at front to reveal petticoat (missing). Buttons and loops at back for puffing the skirt up into a draped style sometimes known as "Polonaise." Linen bodice and sleeve lining.
