Label TextVery few signed items made by Williamsburg craftsmen in the late 18th or early 19th centuries have survived. Common wrought iron mounts like door hinges were rarely marked by the blacksmiths who made them, and it is extremely fortuitous that a small group of such hardware made by William Geddy has been identified. Three strap hinges, two of which retain their pintles and nuts, carry a large "W.GEDDY" mark, struck deeply into their top surfaces. Certainly the mark of either William Geddy Sr. or Jr., all of these hinges and pintles were found on property in James City County, VA, that has been in the family since the 1760s.
