DescriptionRectangular quilt pieced in an abstract large-scale pattern using large blocks and shapes of plain and printed cottons, polyester double knits, and twill upholstery fabric, with smaller pieces of wool-synthetic plaid, all tied together with red yarn ties spaced about 4 inches apart. The quilt is made in predominating colors of reds, blues, and grey-blues with off white. The printed cotton-synthetic blend has scattered blue, yellow, and white flower sprigs on red ground printed to look like denim twill (though the textile is not twill-woven, but woven in modified basket weave with double threads in one direction.) One of the double-knit textiles is knitted with an ogee pattern in grey-blue and off white. Several of the grey-white pieces retain tucks, probably from dress darts or construction seams and the shaping of the skirt. The quilt is backed with several different white cotton sacks, including a hundred-pound bag of Crescent brand sugar and two hundred-pound flour sacks labelled UNRWA, a United Nations Relief and Works Agency. In places the backing is brought to the front as an edge finish; elsewhere, the face is folded to the back. No apparent batting.Exhibition(s)
