DescriptionBoxlock pistol with spring loaded bayonet secured by a moving triggerguard. Label TextWhile the inexpensive pistols made in Belgium during the 18th and 19th centuries had the reputation of being the "Saturday Night Specials" of their day, better handguns were also made there. This example includes a number of finer features, like a Damascus patterned barrel, a finely checquered grip with silver pique inlay and a nasty little surprise. When the triggerguard is pulled back, a tiny bayonet snaps into position, offering an extra threat to those unlucky enough to be on the business end of this vicious little weapon.
MarkingsLeft side of breech struck with the post-1810 Belgian proof of an "ELG" over a star within an oval.
ProvenanceFrom the collection of Dr. George W. Mitchell, III
