DescriptionThis is a rectangular quilt of heavy woolens hand pieced in a design of 35 uneven nine-patch blocks set on point, alternating with plain blocks set on point. Colors include gold (predominating), orange-reds, blue, purple, browns, greens, and pink, with a wide border of golden wool. It is quilted with white cotton using 6 to 7 running stitches per inch in grids (in plain blocks), vertical parallel lines (in pieced blocks), and a five-line cable border on all four sides. The quilt is backed with lavender cotton and has cotton batting. A narrow brown cotton binding has been stitched on by machine and hand stitched to the top; the binding is probably replaced.1845-1855
