DescriptionLocking tongs with tapered rectangular-section arms, a scissor joint, and flat jaws. One arm terminates in a pointed knop while the other ends in a closed curl which traps a "figure of eight" shaped locking loop (a modern replacement).Label TextWhen engaged, the loop at the bottom of this pair of tongs firmly clamped the hot iron into its jaws. By locking the grip, these tools gave greater dexterity and control to the blacksmith using them.
