DescriptionBottom swage with a square-section shank and a rectangular head bearing a broad rounded channel running it's full length.Label TextThe bottom swage, paired with its companion top swage, was used to sandwich a piece of hot metal which was struck by another blacksmith. This process imparted a smooth, rounded surface to ironwork like musket barrels and other long cylindrical shapes like rods.
