DescriptionSilver salver with applied beaded border standing on four bead-edged feet. The recess is covered by a grid of alternating punched dots and engraved "snowflakes," surrounding the initials "NSM" in sprigged script within a laurel wreath.
Label TextAndrew Ellicott Warner, the most prominent silversmith in Baltimore, was from the second of three generations who practiced the trade in that city. Stylistically, this finely engraved salver relates more to the beginning of the 19th century than the exquisite repoussé work he became famous for during the middle of the century. Its top is covered with delicately engraved "snowflakes," a design Ellicott employed on other salvers he made.
MarkingsBottom struck with "A.E.WARNER" (BMA Mark F) in relief within a crenelated rectangular cartouche and the sterling mark of "11 2" in relief within a rectangle.
