DescriptionThis is a framed, rectangular needlework picture worked in shades of pink, green, blue, brown, black, and white wool embroidery threads. The picture depicts a man reclining next to a cow and four sheep shaded by a large tree. A gate and house are visible in the distance.

The needlework picture is in an old, gray frame.


Label TextPastoral scenes, such as the one seen in this wool embroiderd picture, were popular subjects with schoolgrils in the early years of the nineteenth century.
ProvenanceJosephine Baker gave this picture to Beatrix T. Rumford (b. 1939) in 1985. In 2020, Ms. Rumford donated it to Colonial Williamsburg.
