DescriptionMiniature Hitchcock style “fancy” chair with original woven cane seat. Arched crest rail with double step in arch and rounded ends ("crown-top") extending past stiles; curved rectangular slat tenoned into stiles; stiles arch slightly backwards near crest; trapezoidal seat with original cane; turned legs with tapered feet ending on front feet in balls, front legs with ring turnings above and below upper stretcher; rounded double stretchers on sides, single rear stretcher, turned front stretcher. Grain painted to resemble rosewood with mainly black appearance on front elements of chair; stenciled bronze floral decoration on slat; stenciled bronze, gold, and red floral decoration on crest rail; free-hand red and gold trident/arrows with intertwining vine down stiles, front seat rail with red and gold foliate motifs, side seat rails and turned elements on legs, front stretcher, and stiles striped in red and gold; front ball feet red and gold.ProvenanceDonor purchased from G.K.S.
