DescriptionPair of free blown glass vases of thistle shape with copper-wheel engraving around each of a log cabin with smoking chimney, the American flag, a barrel or rundlet with spigot and the phrase "HARD / CIDER"; and a triple stalk with berries and leaves.Label TextWhile electioneering glass and ceramic objects are common survivals in British decorative arts, they turn up less frequently in American material culture. This rare pair of thistle-shaped vases was made to commemorate the 1840 presidential campaign of William Henry Harrison and John Tyler. The wheel engraved decoration alludes to the campaign slogan "Login Cabin and Hard Cider."
