DescriptionSoup ladle: modified Onslow type; downturned handle cast in parts with ribbed sides of upper section flaring to and terminating in a volute to either side; end of handle turned up with cresting of a shell within a standing oval reserve; shaped panel of elliptical imbrications depending from reserve with raised tongue below; cast and applied shell with concave lobes on underside of upper section of handle; raised scrolled break on face and underside of handle below upper section; applied tongue at rim of circular bowl receiving handle; handle ending in scrolled tip and soldered to face of broad elliptical drop on underside of bowl. Crest of a lion rampant crowned engraved on face of handle below upper section.Label TextThe distinctive handle of this ladle is basically of Onslow form, embellished with shell and imbricated decoration. The decorated end of the handle from above the engraved crest and the projecting tip at the lower end are cast. The intervening plain section appears to be wrought.
