Label TextLarge bowls intended for punch are part of the proliferation of new forms in the late seventeenth century. The earliest surviving examples date from the 1680s. One of these is a magnificent silver-gilt example with cover, scrolled handles, and feet by Philip Rollos, which was presented to the borough of Stamford in 1685. It has a matching ladle with a tubular silver handle.

The Colonial Williamsburg collection includes a large group of early silversmiths' tools that descended in the succession of firms ultimately known as Garrard & Co. Some of the earlier tools may have belonged to George Wickes, the founder of this line and the maker of this bowl, while others may have belonged to his partners and successors, Edward Wakelin, John Parker, John Wakelin, William Taylor, and Robert Garrard.
