Label TextThis print depicts the location of the Royal Academy of Arts in London which moved to a purpose-built location in a wing of New Somerset House in 1780. Thomas Malton, RA, was known for his views of London which he collected and bound for a collection in multiple parts entitled, "A Picturesque Tour Through the Cities of London and Westminster, Illustrated With the most interesting Views, accurately delineated And executed in Aquatinta, (London: 1792 [-1802]). For that publication, the inscription on this print was later changed to "S.t Mary's Church and Somerset House in the Strand" (1796).
