DescriptionWoman's shoe made of green silk satin and laced with green silk braids in parallel lines over vamp, consentric squares over quarters, and converging right angles on heel. Shoe has slightly rounded toe coming to a shallow point and a thick 2 5/8-inch high heel. Wide, white rand. Shaped latchets which come to a point and are outlined with laced effect would have originally held removable buckles to fasten shoes. Latchets close over a high square-cut tongue with design of interweaving lacing resembling two interlocking "V"s facing opposite directions. Edges bound with green silk ribbon with wide white rand above sole. Linen ground on vamp and tongue and kid leather ground at quarters and latchets. Small remnants of original salmon pink silk lining remain on interior in seams of insole.Construction History:
1. 1730-1750: Initially constructed
2. Unknown Date: Silk salmon lining removed from interior, likely due to wear. Remains are still evident in the seam of the insole.
3. Unknown Date: Top-piece replaced as evidenced by heavy whip stitching at base of heel breast.
