DescriptionBlanket chest on frame; top section a rectangular box, dovetailed at corners; top made up of four boards, braced underneath at each side and hinged at rear on strap hinges (may not be original) small rectangular till, with peg-hinged top, at left rear of interior. Lower section a rectangular frame with open top and straight sides; molded strips of wood applied to upper edges of sides; four columnar legs terminating in molded ball feet; four rectangular stretchers near base, one on each side.Label TextAlthough acquired in Petersburg in the early 1930s, the exact provenance of this unusual piece is unknown. The tapering, columnar legs are found on several early pieces of Southern furniture.
