Label TextThis snuffer tray is engraved with the arms of the Lightfoot family of Virginia. A pair of candlesticks of 1748-1749 by William Gould of London (CWF accession 1955-162, 1-2), bears similar engraving. All are believed to have been originally owned by William Lightfoot (1722-before 1764) of Teddington, Charles City County, and Yorktown, and to have descended in the Lightfoot, Minge, and Bolling families. Acquired with them were snuffers of about 1785 by William and George Richardson of Richmond, Virginia (accession 1955-164).
