Boydell delin. et Sculp./ A North-West of Caernarvon Castle/ Caernarvon is small, well built Tom, standing at the Bottom of a Bay, on the Firth or Inlet call'd Meneu, dividing the Isle of Anglesea from the main-land. Twas founded by Edward I, who also built a Castle here, to curb the wild people of the Mountains. That Monarch often kept his Court in Caernarvon, & here was born his son & success or Edward II, who was the first prince of Wales. Here us'd to be kept the Chancery & Exchequer of/ the Princes of Wales for the north part of the Principality, Caernarvon, wou'd be a Town of good Trade, was the Country round it able to make a proper Consumption. Tis the capital of the County call'd from its Name./ a. Eagle Tower, Prince Edward born./ Publish'd according to Act of Parliament by J. Boydell at the Globe near Durham Yard in the Strand 1749.
