DescriptionRim of moderate width, octagonal plan, and shaped outline with raised single-reeded molded edge; rather short concave hammered booge to flat base. Engraved crest of bird facing left with spread wings on a wreath bar on face of rim.Label TextThis set of plates and a second set (1959-12, 1-12) were made by the same maker for the same family. They present two different options in plates and dishes of fancy rim type. This set has rims with flat faces and applied moldings at the edges. The other set has a shaped face to the rims with short creases at intervals and unmounted edges.
InscribedUnidentified crest of a falcon with wings extended and inverted on a wreath bar engraved on the face of each rim.
MarkingsTouch mark a rose with palm fronds to either side and crossing below with ":IONAS:/E:Sonnant/1669" within curved reserves above and " DURAND " within a curved reserve on underside of each rim (London Touch Plate II, 557; Cotterell 1475).
