DescriptionScales (1A) and weights (1B-Q): cylindrical beam terminating in curved ends; thin, pointed indicator between hinged shears with arched top; gold and red silk tassel attached to top of shears; pair of dished, circular brass pans suspended from beam ends by three green strings. Fourteen circular and two "square" weights of various sizes; four bear date of 1775.InscribedPrinted label attached to underside of lid of case reads: "S Read / in / St. Ann Lane / near Aldersgate / London / Maketh and Selleth all / Sorts of Scales Weight / & Steelyards."
MarkingsFour weights bear the date 1775.
